Overview
This Tecoma property sits on a hillside with views across the Dandenong Ranges foothills. The homeowners wanted a covered outdoor area for all-weather use. We built a long verandah-style deck (8m x 3m, 24sqm) running along the rear of the house, connected to the living room and kitchen via existing sliding doors. The deck is Merbau hardwood in 90mm boards with a natural oil finish. The roof structure uses galvanised steel posts and beams with a Colorbond flat roof for full weather protection. The slim steel frame was designed to avoid obstructing the panoramic outlook. The deck looks directly over the established garden border with flowering perennials and native plantings framing the view.
Completed in 3 weeks. The covered deck is now the primary living space during spring, summer and autumn. The steel frame is slim enough that the mountain views are uninterrupted.
